The Board are engaging with the marine industry to support best practice, increase education and raise awareness!
The Board’s Field Engagement Team will be visiting marinas throughout Australia to engage directly with those working with gaseous fire systems in the marine industry!
These visits present an opportunity for the marine industry to participate in a shared effort to promote best practice in the management of scheduled extinguishing agents (ODS & SGG) within fire suppression systems. By taking part, marina managers, boat owners, marine service technicians and surveyors will gain practical guidance on:
- What scheduled extinguishing agents are and how they are used in fire protection systems to safeguard lives and property on boats.
- Advice on alternatives that may be available
- The Licensing requirements for the use of these gases,
- Safe storage and transport
- Record keeping and correct discharge reporting procedures.
The marine sector plays an important role in supporting environmental sustainability and the protection of the ozone layer. By engaging with the Board, participants can help identify opportunities to improve practices that reduce emissions, minimise environmental impact, and ensure the continued safe use of scheduled agents.
Why should you participate?
These discussions are a valuable two-way exchange, providing the industry with direct access to information and support, while allowing the Board to learn from real-world experience to refine the permit scheme and strengthen outcomes across the sector.
Further details regarding the program will be shared in due course, and relevant permit holders are encouraged to participate. To get involved, reach out to the Board by emailing: [email protected]
The Board has a range of different educational resources to help guide best practice and understanding of scheduled agents often found on boats in marinas across the country. To increase your knowledge, you can start with these flyers below.
